Week 3 Activity – Developing a Job Description

Overview

In Week 5, you will create a full job description using what you have learned about workforce planning, legal and ethical issues, and job analysis and design. This activity provides you the opportunity to prepare for that assignment by asking you to develop two key components of a job description: essential functions and minimum qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities) for the HR job you chose from the O*NET database.

Prepare

Using the main occupational keyword search box, then enter human resource. From the results, choose one of the occupation titles specific to HR that is of interest to you. Click on the title to open the full occupational job summary. Carefully review the job summary and typical job titles, the occupation-specific information, occupation requirements, experience requirements, worker requirements, worker characteristics, and workforce characteristics to get a good sense of the scope of the job.

Using the information you find, you will download and complete the Developing a Job Description Template, linked below. Download the template and change the file name to include your first initial and last name (for example, cf_BUS335_w03a1_template.docx_SPeters). Then, answer each section in the template using complete sentences and a professional tone. Be sure to cite your sources of information.
