Technology has impacted a buildings HVAC design significantly over the last decade. What new systems do you see (either direct or indirect), that has made the greatest impact on a well functioning heating and cooling system design? Why did this change come about and why was it needed?

Please give some examples on how this new technology has lead to more economic efficiency and created a more comfortable and quality living (working), environment.
