MGT 551. Planning and Control
Assignment 2
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
For some project of your choosing (it can be hypothetical or real):
- Create a product-oriented, tabular WBS. The WBS should be three levels
deep, where the final deliverable itself constitutes the top level. It should
contain at least five major elements, and each of those should be comprised of
3-5 sub-elements. Be sure to develop an appropriate numbering system to
identify each element or sub-element of the WBS. (This numbering system is
called the code of accounts.) - Create a task oriented, tabular WBS for the same project covered in task 1
above. Make it three levels deep, where the top level is the overall project, the
next level down is the task level, and the third level down is the sub-task level.
Be sure to develop an appropriate numbering system to identify tasks and subtasks - Many project management experts contend that one of the most important
things project workers can do when planning a project is to create a good
WBS. What value does the WBS possess? - What are the relative merits/demerits of a product-oriented vs. task- oriented WBS?
