1.
Turn in a two-page, double-spaced (12-point font) summary of a peer-reviewed journal article that is about
cognitive psychology in some form. The paper must include a summary of the research question, what the
researchers did, what they found, and your thoughts on it. You can complete two of these for a total of 10
extra credit points. The article can be from any peer-reviewed journal (e.g., from a psychology journal, a
medical journal, etc.). You can turn in extra credit throughout the term, but it is formally due by midnight
on the last day of class

Self-Evaluation Assignment
The purpose of this self-evaluation is to encourage you to think about the relationship between your effort in the course and what you learned. Evaluate your effort in each of these three areas (preparation, participation, and attendance). You may give yourself anywhere from zero to fifteen points in each category. Please be thoughtful and honest about your responses. Generally, what is most important here is not the amount of time you have put in, but whether you have made sufficient effort to really learn the material (such as reading and attending), and in the case of class participation, whether you have contributed to the class environment and discussion.
3
Question at position 1
Assign yourself anywhere between 0 – 15 points for how well you prepared for class this term. Preparation mainly comes from reading the textbook and using the textbook resources.
As a guide, 15 points would indicate you read the assigned chapter each week prior to watching the recorded lecture to help you prepare for the live session. You also may have answered the practice quiz questions or journal questions in the textbook, or done the activities presented in the textbook. 10 points would mean you occassionally read, and did few practice quizzes/questions/journals/activities. 5 points would mean you barely read and rarely used any of the additional resources in the textbook. 0 points would represent not reading and not doing any practice questions.
In addition to providing a point total, please provide a brief justification for your point total (3-4 sentences).
4
Assign yourself anywhere between 0 – 15 points for how well you attended class this term. Given the online asynchronous nature of this course, attendance is mainly based on your efforts to watch the recorded zoom lectures.
As a guide, 15 points would indicate you watched the recorded zoom lectures regularly enough to fully understand all of the concepts covered in class. You also attended office hours when necessary to gain further clarification on material. 10 points would mean you watched recorded lectures enough to understand some of the material and occassionally attended office hours when you needed further clarification on material. 5 points would mean you watched enough recorded lectures to understand a little of the material and barely attended office hours when you needed further clarification on material. 0 points would represent not watching recorded lectures at all and not ever making an effort to attend office hours when you needed clarification on material. You can also include your efforts to attend live sessions (which were not mandatory) and review sessions as part of this grade.
In addition to providing a point total, please provide a brief justification for your point total (3-4 sentences).
5
Assign yourself anywhere between 0 – 15 points for how well you participation in this class during the term. Given the asynchronous online lecture format, participation mainly comes from how you engaged with the check ins and activities for the recorded lectures.
As a guide, 15 points would represent consistent participation in with the recorded lectures, meaning you answered the check in questions, review questions, and completed the suggested activities regularly enough to fully understand all of the concepts covered in class. 10 points would be doing some but not all of the check ins, review questions, and activities on the recorded lecture, occasionally skipping over them. 5 points would be you barely did any of the check ins, review questions, or activities, usually skipping over them in the recorded lecture. 0 points would be you never completed the check ins, review questions, or activities on the recorded lecture. Participation can also consist of your efforts to participate in live (not mandatory) zoom sessions (asking questions, answering questions, participating in discussions, interacting with and/or helping fellow classmates… etc.), review sessions, your efforts to connect with the professor (whether via email, zoom meetings, office hours, or phone calls) to discuss concepts and get help/seek clarification, and/or your efforts to connect with other students, such as forming virtual study groups.
In addition to providing a point total, please provide a brief justification for your point total (3-4 sentences).

Discussion
“Artificial Intelligence in Human Physiology: Advancements, Applications, and Ethical Considerations”
When participating in the discussion board, please ensure that all replies are respectful, polite, and constructive. Negative talk and disrespectful comments will not be tolerated. Focus on fostering a positive and supportive environment by engaging thoughtfully and courteously with your classmates’ posts.
1. Read the materials and links at the bottom, and research the topic to get a brief understanding of the topic before posting your responses.
2. Write your discussion on the following topics/ questions.
3. To receive full points, respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts. In your replies, share your opinions, comment on the topics they discussed, offer alternative views, or highlight challenges and considerations they may not have addressed.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been making significant strides in various fields, and human physiology is no exception. In this discussion, let’s explore the fascinating world of AI and its applications in understanding, monitoring, and improving human physiology.
Watch these videos and read the articles on how AI is being implemented to understand and push the boundaries of human physiology. then Write a post in the discussion answering these questions and stating your opinions or thoughts on AI and human physiology.
Discussion prompts:
- Discuss the importance of collaboration between AI specialists and medical professionals. How can these two groups work together to harness the full potential of AI for human physiology?
- Consider the future of AI in human physiology. What emerging trends or breakthroughs do you anticipate in this field, and how might they impact healthcare and research?
- Share your thoughts on balancing human expertise and AI assistance in medical decision-making. When should human judgment prevail, and when can AI lead?
Engage with your fellow students by responding to their perspectives, sharing examples of AI applications in human physiology, and discussing the implications of AI in healthcare. This discussion offers an opportunity to explore the evolving landscape of AI in human physiology and its far-reaching consequences.

322 Self-Application Plan
Hopefully during this coulp you LEARN information that you can apply outside of class and beyond the final exam.
Engaging in real-life application also helps you learn and remember the material at a deeper level (which actually will help you for exams, so it’s a win-win situation for everyone!).
With that in mind, you will submit a two-page (double spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font, 1-
inch margins) self-application plan that does two things: 1) discusses how concepts taught in this
course have affected you personally or apply to your life (i.e., the “application” section) and 2) a specific plan explicitly outlining steps you can take to change or improve a cognitive aspect in your daily life (i.e., the “plan” section).
For the “application” section, you can talk about multiple concepts (for example, you might have thoughts on how the memory information you learned applies to your life and thoughts on how your new knowledge of heuristics and biases apply to your life). For the “plan” section, please focus on one concept where you outline steps on how you will apply, change, or improve this concept to your life (for example, what steps might you take to improve your decision making?). I would recommend writing about a 1 to 1 ½ pages for the first “application” section and about ½ page to 1 page for the second “plan” section, but how you split the paper up between the two portions is up to you (just make sure you
address both and they total to two pages!).
The rubric for this assignment is a little less “strict” than past assignments, as I truly want to hear about your experiences and how what you have learned has impacted or could impact your day-to-day life. To help guide you for the first “application” section, here are some questions you should consider answering (you don’t need to answer all of them; this is to help you get started):How has your understanding of your own mind and thought processes changed? Could you make
any improvements in these areas?Have you learned anything that could improve your academic performance? Athletic
performance?Have you learned anything that could improve your social relationships? How might what you have learned impact your view of others? Have you learned anything that
might help you better understand those around you, be more compassionate, be less quick to
judge… etc.?Has your view of individuals who might suffer from cognitive problems (e.g., amnesia, language
difficulties, psychopathologies… etc.) changed? How so?How could your new knowledge help you better understand your own emotions? The emotions
of others?
For the second “plan” section, MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE:What cognitive aspect are you going to change or improve? In what type of situations are you going to make this change (e.g., in your academic
performance, in your social relationships, in your athletic performance… etc.)?List at least three steps (could be more, but needs to be at least three) you will take to make this
change (be specific!).
