For this discussion activity assignment, you will need to find a current events news story, related to a leadership topic, from your favorite online news media site. After selecting your news story, use the media literacy tools from Unit 2 to analyze the validity of your source (please provide a link to your source in your post). For your analysis of your news source, use the CRAAP Test worksheet from this unit as well as any of the other guidelines/checklists from Tabs 1-6 from the WMU University Libraries Media Literacy Guide. In presenting your analysis, make sure to discuss how your source does or does not meet each of the criteria on the checklist, how you would score your source on each item, and whether you believe your source is valid overall, and why or why not. In addition to presenting your analysis of your news source, discuss why determining the validity of information is important for work in your major/intended career and why information literacy strategies are necessary for your future work.

After completing your post, remember to respond to the posts of at least two other students. In your posts to your classmates, you can make comments on their approach to analyzing their media source, discuss any similarities you see between their analysis and yours, and highlight any parallels you see between the importance of information literacy in your major/career as compared to theirs, etc.
