Discussions play an integral role in monitoring your course participation throughout the term. You should check back to the weekly discussions multiple times throughout the week to engage in the discussion with your professor and peers. Participation is only counted during the week in which this discussion is assigned. Be sure to appropriately cite any sources you use to support your responses with standard APA citations. Answer the prompt question(s) thoroughly using a minimum of 150-200 words and respond to as many of your peers as possible – note that responses to 2 of your peers are required for full credit. Be sure to answer any additional questions asked by your professor in the discussion threads. Your initial post is due by Day 3 of the current week, and follow-up posts to your peers are due on Day 7!

Discussion Prompt:

Upload your The Essentials of Professional Nursing Education Presentation and PowerPoint (Submitted in Week 8) to the Week 9 Discussion and view the PowerPoint presentations posted by your classmates.

Include your Essential topic and what you learned from creating the presentation.

Discuss how nurses lead change. Include your own experience and what you gained from reviewing your peer’s presentations.

Responses:

Choose two classmates’ posts about a different Essential. You will need to watch the PowerPoint referenced in their posts. Please respond to two classmates with substantive responses

  • Identify the Essential and discuss what you learned from the PowerPoint presentation
  • How was it similar or different from the Essential you did in your presentation?
  • How might you use this Essential in your clinical practice?
  • Be sure to include specific sub-competencies in your post.

Purpose:

The purpose of the threaded discussion is to promote dialogue among students and faculty during the course.

Requirements:

  • The student must provide the initial substantive response to the discussion question/topic(s) posted by the course faculty by Friday of those weeks with a discussion board assignment.
  • The student must also provide a minimum of two additional responses to two student colleagues on two different days by Tuesday of those weeks with a discussion board assignment.
  • All questions posed to the initial student post by course faculty need to be answered by the student to earn full credit for the discussion board assignment.

This should be substantive feedback to a student colleague’s response to the question/topic posted by the course faculty. All responses must be respectful and thoughtful.

Discussion boards are not opinion boards. Students are expected to have scholarly sources to support their claims and constructs presented in the original post and citations must be provided. While scholarly resources are not required for your response posts, they do strengthen your posts and you must cite information taken from a source. Citations for parts of posts that are synthesized from the course text, peer-reviewed research articles, and other credible sources are required. Course faculty monitor for the compliance of citations with Turnitin evaluation of the posts intermittently during the course session.
