You were assigned to read Edward J. Larson’s A Magnificent Catastrophe: The Tumultuous Election of 1800, America’s First Presidential Campaign. Compare a modern presidentialcampaign (since 2000) with the Adams-Jefferson campaign chronicled in that text to describe what has changed and what has stayed the same in terms of campaign dynamics, strategies, and tactics. You should consider the elements of a campaign that we’ve covered in class and in Campaign Craft and Modern Political Campaigns books.

1. Select a modern presidential campaign (2000-2020)
2. Research the race:
a. identify the strategies, tactics, and dynamics of each candidate’s campaign
b. note any relevant current events leading up to Election Day that year and impact
c. provide summary of the race
3. Compare your chosen race with the Adams-Jefferson election of 1800:
a. What are the major similarities in political settings, dynamics and strategies between your campaign and 1800 campaign?
b. What are the major differences in political settings, dynamics and strategies between your campaign and the 1800 campaign?
c. Provide analysis of how much, and in what ways, have campaigns changed since 1800
d. Conclude with summary and explanation of your opinion on whether campaigns have changed for better or worse

Your paper should include at least three specific examples from A Magnificent Catastrophe of campaign elements or the political environment in the 1800 presidential election.
