Symbolism is likely the most recognizable literary device in literature. In films, it might be the object on which the camera lingers before the scene changes. Similarly, in a novel, it would be a recurring object but could also be a character, a situation, an event, or an action. In a short story, one outstanding symbol usually conveys a deeper meaning to the character and the story. Authors generally choose their symbols carefully to provide a rich theme to the piece of literature.
In conjunction with the deeper meaning of literature, we will also look at the “grown-up comic books,” known as Graphic Fiction. Many films we enjoy, such as The Watchman, Wanted, Snowpiercer, and the wildly popular Walking Dead television series, began as animated or graphic novels. This genre is powerful, succinct, and fraught with symbolism. Who knew those comic books we loved as children would become today’s bestselling films and novels?Objectives:- Synthesize research, text support, and personal analyses into a cohesive essay.

Analyzing 323 Starbucks coffee shop consumers, the research demonstrates that brand symbolism significantly influences positive brand referrals, purchase intention, and oppositional brand referrals, with consumer brand identification (CBI) mediating this relationship and generational cohorts moderating the effect on purchase intention.
- UNIT 6 DB: THE SYMBOLS OF YOUR LIFEUnit 6 DB: The Symbols of Your LifeThe readings in this unit provide stories that include life-changing symbols for the protagonist(s). Symbolism is not confined to the pages of literature; it is a fundamental aspect of human communication and perception. Many symbols hold personal significance. If someone were to write your life story, what symbol would be present and why? How does this symbol represent you? You can attach a picture of your symbol (an example of this might be a baby blanket from your childhood or a baseball from your first game). In response to your peers: what are some other important symbols we see daily? Consider culture, technology, and/or symbolic gestures.
