When you hire, what qualities do you look for in an applicant that would meet the school’s needs?

Contact the principal or assistant principal for your school to seek information as to how the process works in your school district for hiring instructional staff. Ask your interviewee to provide a description of the hiring process at the school and/or district and three questions often asked during an interview. Also ask why they use these specific questions and how these questions are useful in predicting if the candidate possesses the necessary knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to provide quality instruction to students and positively impact student achievement. In addition, ask the interviewee the following questions:

  1. When you hire, what qualities do you look for in an applicant that would meet the school’s needs?
  2. When you review potential hires’ application materials, what is it about the content of those materials that causes you to pursue an applicant further?

In your thread, include a description of the hiring process, the interview questions with rationales, the responses from the interviewee to your two questions, and a concluding paragraph describing the insights you gained from this experience.
